179
aa Mr. Taylor and Mr. feud will not be recalled haru. I anail
not have either of them back here again unless it is absolutely
essential, and then due notice will be given,
You
Mr. Forrest: May I ask Kr. Taylor one further question. (To Mr.
Taylor) In connexion with the accounting for deposita, you maue
a certain suggestion I think you ade it to the Treasury.
certainly mentioned it to me. Can you tell me what it wast
Taylor: I suggested that we run an account on the same lines as
the Suitors Fund in the Supreme Court.
Was your suggestion favourably received in the Treasury't
A.
I am afraid it was not.
I think it was pointed out to me that
A.
A.
the suitore Fund had to have an Ordinance to permit it and a
similar fund would need another Or.inance.
No other objection?
I heard of none.
Did you at that time know that the provision of such a fund was
one of the recommendations of Mr. Middlebrook 7
I don't think it occurred to ma at the time, although I had read
hia report.
2nd you know that such a fund existed under the same immigration
control legislation in the Straits?
1 did not.
You had something to say about the Treasury?
The question of the Treasury cash book.
Cheirean:
Meaning by that the cach book suggested by Mr. A.J.C.Taylor
on ülst Octo: er?
Kr. Taylor I was asked by Mr. A. .C.Taylor why it was not put into
effect. He then sketched it for me and I pointed out to him that
we did not issue our permits in aerial numbers and tiærefore the
cash book could not be put into practice.
Mr. Audrey: Kay I make an explanatory statement? That form, I believe
ahowa "No. of permits". For some reason or other the Immigration
Office decided that meant the serial numbers. It was the
quantity that was meant.
-hairuan : That point was made to Mr. A.J.C.Taylor and Mr.A.J.G.Taylor
